20 Feb Artistic Protest

A Miami artist, Maximo Caminero, entered an exhibition at the Perez Art Museum Miami and smashes one of international artist Ai WeiWei’s million dollar paint dipped Han Dynasty vase.  He claims this action was in protest to the museum’s decision to display only international art.  Ai WeiWei himself has smashed urns as a form of protest but that was his own statement and done so with his own property.  For Maximo Caminero destroying someone else’s artwork will only draw negative attention and amount to vandalism.  Maybe he should consider coming up with his own form of protest instead of copying someone else.  Perhaps if he was more original, he might be the one being exhibited in museums.
